Why students in Geneva come to one-to-one lessons
Geneva is the birthplace of the IB, and the schools around the lake, Ecolint's three campuses, Collège du Léman, Institut Florimont, Aiglon and the Lausanne schools among them, send a large cohort to universities in the United States every year. Many of those students belong to families who move: diplomats, UN and NGO staff, people on multinational postings who may be in a different country by the time the application is submitted.
That mobility is the Geneva-specific problem. A student who arrives in Grade 10 from a French Bac school, or who will leave halfway through Grade 12, cannot fit a local test-prep course that runs on a fixed calendar and assumes the same student turns up every week for a term. And even for families who stay, the pattern is the same as in most of Switzerland: strong mathematics, a school that speaks two or three languages, and a Reading and Writing section that is a foreign kind of test.
Online one-to-one lessons travel with the student. The tutor, the plan and the homework stay the same whether the family is in Geneva, on home leave, or already relocated.

Geneva is on Central European Time (UTC+1, UTC+2 in summer). Switzerland moves between CET and CEST on the same weekends the UK moves between GMT and British Summer Time, so the gap is one hour all year round and your lesson time never needs adjusting.
What is specific to Geneva
- Geneva is on Central European Time, one hour ahead of the UK all year. A 5.00pm lesson in Geneva is 4.00pm in London, well inside a UK working afternoon.
- Lessons move with the family. A posting that ends mid-year, home leave in the summer, a term abroad: the lesson time is renegotiated, and nothing else changes.
- Bilingual and trilingual students are the norm here. Reading & Writing is taught by a native English speaker, which matters on a section built on nuance in vocabulary, grammar and argument.
- Test centre seats in the Lake Geneva region are limited. Some students travel to Zurich or Basel for a sitting. Register early: the test date table has the deadlines.
- Billed in pounds sterling by card link or bank transfer, after each lesson. Fees are on the fee sheet; the intro call and the trial lesson are free.
How the lessons themselves work
- Live one-to-one on a shared whiteboard that both tutor and student write on, not a recorded course, and not a screen-share of somebody talking.
- Homework set after every lesson and marked before the next, included in the rate.
- Full-length timed mocks in Bluebook, set, marked and reviewed, so nothing on test day is unfamiliar.
- A live topic tracker (one row per College Board domain) so every content area is covered, practised and signed off before the sitting. Parents can see it whenever they like.
- Progress updates to parents after every mock, and a review call whenever you want one.

Is the SAT needed for Swiss universities?
No. Swiss universities admit on the Matura, the IB or an equivalent school-leaving qualification and do not use the SAT. It is required or recommended for most applications to universities in the United States, and accepted by some institutions elsewhere. A Geneva student applying to both EPFL and a US university needs the SAT for the US half only.
