Why students in Zurich come to one-to-one lessons
Zurich's SAT cohort is split in a way few cities are. Part of it sits in the international schools, at Zurich International School, the Inter-Community School and the SIS campuses, following the IB or an American programme with a counsellor who has seen a hundred US applications. The other part is in the cantonal Gymnasien, working towards the Matura, where an application to Stanford or MIT is something the school may never have handled before.
The two groups need different things. The IB and American-curriculum students usually know what the SAT is and need the score moved; the Matura students are often very strong mathematically but have never met a timed multiple-choice test in English, and the Reading and Writing half costs them marks that have nothing to do with ability. Local test-prep centres in Zurich run a single course for both, on a fixed evening timetable that competes with sport, music and the commute home from a school in another municipality.
One-to-one lessons start from which of those students you actually are, and are scheduled around a Swiss school week rather than the other way round.
Lesson times in Zurich
Zurich is on Central European Time (UTC+1, UTC+2 in summer). These are the slots students here book most often, with the corresponding UK time in both halves of the year, so you can see the lesson falls inside a normal working day at the tutor's end, which is what keeps a weekly slot stable through a whole term.

Switzerland moves between CET and CEST on the same weekends the UK moves between GMT and British Summer Time, so the gap is one hour all year round and your lesson time never needs adjusting.
What is specific to Zurich
- Zurich is on Central European Time, one hour ahead of the UK all year. A 4.00pm lesson in Zurich is 3.00pm in London, so afternoon slots sit squarely in a UK working day.
- Swiss school afternoons are the natural slot. Many Gymnasium timetables finish early on at least one weekday, and Wednesday afternoons are free in several cantons, which makes a mid-afternoon lesson easy to hold every week.
- Test centres in the Zurich area fill quickly for the autumn sittings, and some students end up travelling to Basel or Bern. Register as soon as the date is settled: the test date table has every deadline.
- Matura students get the verbal half taught properly. Reading & Writing is taught by a native English speaker; the Math, which Matura students usually find familiar, is taught by the same tutor and treated as a pacing problem rather than a content one.
- Billed in pounds sterling by card link or bank transfer, after each lesson. Fees are on the fee sheet; the intro call and the trial lesson are free.
How the lessons themselves work
- Live one-to-one on a shared whiteboard that both tutor and student write on, not a recorded course, and not a screen-share of somebody talking.
- Homework set after every lesson and marked before the next, included in the rate.
- Full-length timed mocks in Bluebook, set, marked and reviewed, so nothing on test day is unfamiliar.
- A live topic tracker (one row per College Board domain) so every content area is covered, practised and signed off before the sitting. Parents can see it whenever they like.
- Progress updates to parents after every mock, and a review call whenever you want one.
