Lewis Watson MEng (Cantab)
Lewis read Chemical Engineering at the University of Cambridge and has tutored full time since 2015. He teaches both halves of the Digital SAT himself — the Math with an engineer’s command of the quantitative section, Reading & Writing with the ear for language the verbal half rewards.
Much of the early work was residential, living with families in Dubai and Saudi Arabia and teaching through term time and exam season, before the practice moved mostly online. More about Lewis →
Why students in Saudi Arabia come to one-to-one lessons
Saudi Arabia sends a large and growing cohort to universities in the United States, and the SAT is still the test that stands between a strong school record and a competitive application. For students at international schools in Riyadh, Jeddah and Khobar, it is usually the one piece of the application that no amount of coursework can compensate for.
The practical problem is rarely motivation. It is that SAT preparation locally tends to mean a group course built around the same shortcut material, run to a fixed syllabus regardless of what any individual student is actually getting wrong. That works well enough to move a 1100 to a 1300. It reliably stalls around 1400, because the questions above that line are engineered to punish exactly the pattern-matching those courses teach.
What changes the number at that point is one-to-one attention on the specific judgment calls a student is getting wrong, which is what this is.
Lesson times in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia is on UTC+3. These are the slots students here book most often, with the corresponding UK time in both halves of the year, so you can see the lesson falls inside a normal working day at the tutor's end, which is what keeps a weekly slot stable through a whole term.
| Lesson time where you are | UK time, Apr–Oct | UK time, Oct–Mar |
|---|---|---|
| 4.00pm | 2pm UK | 1pm UK |
| 5.00pm | 3pm UK | 2pm UK |
| 6.00pm | 4pm UK | 3pm UK |
| 7.00pm | 5pm UK | 4pm UK |
| 8.00pm | 6pm UK | 5pm UK |
The UK moves between GMT and British Summer Time in late March and late October; Saudi Arabia does not change clocks, so the UK-side time shifts by an hour twice a year while your lesson time stays put.
What is specific to Saudi Arabia
- Saudi Arabia is on UTC+3, two hours ahead of the UK in summer and three in winter. A lesson at 6.00pm in Riyadh is a comfortable UK afternoon, so evening slots are genuinely available rather than something to be squeezed in.
- Lessons work around the school week, whichever pattern your school runs. Weekend sessions are available and are often the easiest slot for students carrying a heavy weekday load.
- Test centres in Riyadh, Jeddah and Khobar fill early for popular sittings. Register as soon as the date is settled rather than waiting for the deadline. See the test date table.
- Both halves of the test, one tutor. Reading & Writing is taught by a native English speaker, which matters on a section built on nuance in vocabulary, grammar and argument. The Math is taught by the same person.
- Billed in pounds sterling by card link or bank transfer, with nothing to pay before the free intro call and trial lesson.
Online SAT tutoring in Saudi Arabia, city by city
Because the lessons are online, where a student is in the Kingdom changes the scheduling and the test centre rather than the teaching itself. What genuinely differs locally is the calendar: which sittings are realistic, how early centre seats go, and how the school year and Ramadan fall in a given year. There are separate pages for the two largest cohorts:
- SAT tutoring in Riyadh: the largest cluster of international schools in the Kingdom, the most test centre capacity, and the most competition for it.
- SAT tutoring in Jeddah: the Red Sea coast, and how to choose between sittings when a resit is part of the plan from the start.
- Dhahran, Khobar and the Eastern Province: taught on exactly the same basis. Weekend slots are usually the easiest fit here and are worth asking about early.
How the lessons themselves work
- Live one-to-one on a shared whiteboard that both tutor and student write on, not a recorded course, and not a screen-share of somebody talking.
- Homework set after every lesson and marked before the next, included in the rate.
- Full-length timed mocks in Bluebook, set, marked and reviewed, so nothing on test day is unfamiliar.
- A live topic tracker (one row per College Board domain) so every content area is covered, practised and signed off before the sitting. Parents can see it whenever they like.
- Progress updates to parents after every mock, and a review call whenever you want one.

What lessons cost from Saudi Arabia
One rate for every student: £135 an hour, roughly SAR 690 at mid-2026 exchange rates. Everything the rate covers is on the fee sheet.
Who is the best online SAT tutor in Saudi Arabia?
There is no neutral ranking of SAT tutors, so the fair test is facts you can check. Lewis Watson, who teaches every Altair Prep lesson, scored a perfect 1600 on the SAT, holds an MEng in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge, and has tutored full time for more than ten years. He teaches both sections of the Digital SAT, Math and Reading and Writing, himself: one to one, online, at a fixed weekly time in Saudi time (UTC+3). Ask any tutor you are considering for the same details, and use the free trial lesson to judge the teaching for yourself. There is more about Lewis on his own page.
Common questions from Saudi Arabia
Can I get SAT tutoring in Riyadh or Jeddah online?
Yes. Altair Prep teaches one-to-one Digital SAT lessons online to students in Riyadh, Jeddah and the Dhahran–Khobar area, live over a shared interactive whiteboard that both tutor and student write on. Homework is set after every lesson and marked before the next. Every lesson is taught by Lewis Watson, a Cambridge-educated tutor, rather than passed to an associate.
What time are SAT lessons for students in Saudi Arabia?
Saudi Arabia is on UTC+3, two hours ahead of the UK in summer and three in winter, so a 6.00pm lesson in Riyadh falls in the middle of a UK working afternoon. That means Altair Prep can hold late-afternoon and evening slots in Saudi time as a fixed weekly appointment rather than squeezing them into either end of the day. Weekend lessons are also available.
Is the SAT the same in Saudi Arabia as in the United States?
Yes. The Digital SAT is identical worldwide — the same adaptive format, the same 400 to 1600 scale and the same test dates. Only the test centre differs.
Can students sit the SAT in Saudi Arabia?
Yes. The Digital SAT is offered at approved international test centres in Saudi Arabia, including in Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province. Capacity is limited and popular sittings fill before the registration deadline, so secure the test centre seat first and plan preparation backwards from that date.
Is online SAT tutoring available across Saudi Arabia?
Yes, anywhere with a reliable connection. Altair Prep teaches students in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dhahran and Khobar on exactly the same basis, because the lesson runs on a shared interactive whiteboard rather than in a room. What varies between cities is not the teaching but the logistics — which test centres open for a given sitting, how quickly their seats go, and how the local school calendar fits around the date.
