Why students in Seoul come to one-to-one lessons
Seoul has one of the most developed SAT preparation industries in the world. Between the international schools, Seoul International School, Korea International School, Seoul Foreign School, Dwight and Chadwick Songdo among them, and the hagwon in Gangnam and Daechi-dong, a student can be drilled on the SAT for as many hours a week as a family is prepared to fund. Most students arriving for one-to-one lessons have already done a course. Often several.
The pattern that produces is very consistent. Math scores are high, frequently at or near 800, because the content is comfortably below what a Korean student has covered at school. The Reading and Writing score sits a hundred or more points behind, and it has stopped moving, because the hagwon approach teaches the verbal section as rules and pattern-matching, and the hardest questions on the Digital SAT are built specifically to look like the pattern and then break it.
What moves that score is a native English speaker watching an individual student's reasoning on individual questions, live, and correcting the habit rather than the answer. That is what these lessons are.
Lesson times in Seoul
Seoul is on Korea Standard Time (UTC+9). These are the slots students here book most often, with the corresponding UK time in both halves of the year, so you can see the lesson falls inside a normal working day at the tutor's end, which is what keeps a weekly slot stable through a whole term.

The UK moves between GMT and British Summer Time in late March and late October; Korea does not change clocks, so the UK-side time shifts by an hour twice a year while your lesson time stays put.
What is specific to Seoul
- Korea is on Korea Standard Time (UTC+9), eight hours ahead of the UK in summer and nine in winter. A 7.00pm lesson in Seoul is late morning in London, so evening slots after school or after hagwon are a dependable weekly fixture.
- Reading & Writing taught by a native English speaker who reads the passages the way the test-writers do. The Math, which most Seoul students find familiar, is taught by the same tutor as a pacing and precision problem.
- Previous courses are taken seriously. If a student has done hagwon prep, the first job is finding which rules stuck, which did not, and which are now costing marks.
- Test centre seats in Korea are scarce and can be gone within hours of registration opening. Decide the sitting early and register the moment it opens: the test date table lists the dates.
- Billed in pounds sterling by card link or bank transfer, after each lesson. Fees are on the fee sheet; the intro call and the trial lesson are free.
How the lessons themselves work
- Live one-to-one on a shared whiteboard that both tutor and student write on, not a recorded course, and not a screen-share of somebody talking.
- Homework set after every lesson and marked before the next, included in the rate.
- Full-length timed mocks in Bluebook, set, marked and reviewed, so nothing on test day is unfamiliar.
- A live topic tracker (one row per College Board domain) so every content area is covered, practised and signed off before the sitting. Parents can see it whenever they like.
- Progress updates to parents after every mock, and a review call whenever you want one.

How hard is it to get an SAT test centre seat in Korea?
Very, at the popular sittings. Seats at test centres in Seoul and elsewhere in Korea can be taken within hours of registration opening, and some families end up sitting in Japan, Hong Kong or Singapore instead. Decide the sitting early, register the moment registration opens, and plan preparation backwards from the confirmed date rather than from a date you hope to get.
