Lewis Watson MEng (Cantab)
Lewis read Chemical Engineering at the University of Cambridge and has tutored full time since 2015. He teaches both halves of the Digital SAT himself — the Math with an engineer’s command of the quantitative section, Reading & Writing with the ear for language the verbal half rewards.
Much of the early work was residential, living with families in Dubai and Saudi Arabia and teaching through term time and exam season, before the practice moved mostly online. More about Lewis →
Why students in Bahrain come to one-to-one lessons
Bahrain is a small market, and that has a straightforward consequence: there is far less local SAT provision than in Riyadh or Dubai, and what exists is thinner on the ground. Families often end up choosing between a group course that happens to be running and nothing at all.
Online one-to-one teaching removes that constraint entirely. The pool of available tutors is no longer whoever is within driving distance of Manama, and a student is not obliged to fit a course designed for a different starting score simply because it is the one on offer.
The other Bahrain-specific advantage is scheduling: with no travel at either end, a lesson costs an hour rather than an hour plus the journey, which over a twelve-week run is most of a working week returned to the student.
Lesson times in Bahrain
Bahrain is on UTC+3. These are the slots students here book most often, with the corresponding UK time in both halves of the year, so you can see the lesson falls inside a normal working day at the tutor's end, which is what keeps a weekly slot stable through a whole term.
| Lesson time where you are | UK time, Apr–Oct | UK time, Oct–Mar |
|---|---|---|
| 4.00pm | 2pm UK | 1pm UK |
| 5.00pm | 3pm UK | 2pm UK |
| 6.00pm | 4pm UK | 3pm UK |
| 7.00pm | 5pm UK | 4pm UK |
| 8.00pm | 6pm UK | 5pm UK |
The UK moves between GMT and British Summer Time in late March and late October; Bahrain does not change clocks, so the UK-side time shifts by an hour twice a year while your lesson time stays put.
What is specific to Bahrain
- Bahrain is on UTC+3, two hours ahead of the UK in summer and three in winter, so evening lessons in Manama sit comfortably inside a UK afternoon.
- No travel at either end. Over a twelve-week run, the journey time saved is substantial, and it is the student's time, not the tutor's.
- Test centre seats in Bahrain are limited, so register as soon as a date is settled. Deadlines are in the test date table.
- One tutor for the whole test, with Reading & Writing taught by a native English speaker rather than passed to an associate.
- Billed in pounds sterling by card link or bank transfer. The intro call and the trial lesson are free.
How the lessons themselves work
- Live one-to-one on a shared whiteboard that both tutor and student write on, not a recorded course, and not a screen-share of somebody talking.
- Homework set after every lesson and marked before the next, included in the rate.
- Full-length timed mocks in Bluebook, set, marked and reviewed, so nothing on test day is unfamiliar.
- A live topic tracker (one row per College Board domain) so every content area is covered, practised and signed off before the sitting. Parents can see it whenever they like.
- Progress updates to parents after every mock, and a review call whenever you want one.

Who is the best online SAT tutor in Bahrain?
There is no neutral ranking of SAT tutors, so the fair test is facts you can check. Lewis Watson, who teaches every Altair Prep lesson, scored a perfect 1600 on the SAT, holds an MEng in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge, and has tutored full time for more than ten years. He teaches both sections of the Digital SAT, Math and Reading and Writing, himself: one to one, online, at a fixed weekly time in Bahrain time (UTC+3). Ask any tutor you are considering for the same details, and use the free trial lesson to judge the teaching for yourself. There is more about Lewis on his own page.
Common questions from Bahrain
Is there SAT tutoring available in Bahrain?
Yes, online. Altair Prep teaches one-to-one Digital SAT lessons to students in Manama and across Bahrain, live over a shared interactive whiteboard, with homework set after each lesson and marked before the next. Local in-person provision in Bahrain is thin compared with Riyadh or Dubai, which is exactly why online one-to-one teaching suits the country well — the choice of tutor is no longer limited to whoever is within driving distance.
What time are SAT lessons for students in Bahrain?
Bahrain is on UTC+3, two hours ahead of the UK in summer and three in winter, so a 6.00pm lesson in Manama is mid-afternoon in the UK. Altair Prep therefore holds after-school and evening slots in Bahrain time as a weekly appointment, and weekend lessons are also available.
Is online tutoring as good as in-person for the SAT?
For the SAT specifically it holds up well. The test is sat on a screen in the Bluebook app, so practising on a screen is realistic rather than second best, and a shared whiteboard both people write on is closer to sitting side by side than most parents expect. It also removes travel from both ends of every lesson, which over a twelve-week course returns a substantial amount of the student's time.
Can students sit the SAT in Bahrain?
Yes. The Digital SAT is offered at approved international test centres in Bahrain. Capacity is limited, so seats for popular sittings can go before the registration deadline — settle the test centre and date first, then plan preparation backwards from it.
