Why students in Delhi come to one-to-one lessons
Delhi and the National Capital Region have one of the largest US-bound cohorts in Asia, spread across a very wide range of schools: the American Embassy School and the British School in Chanakyapuri, Pathways, Shiv Nadar and the Heritage schools in Gurgaon and Noida, Vasant Valley, Step by Step, and the big CBSE names, DPS, Modern School and others, whose students increasingly apply abroad as well as to Indian universities.
The CBSE and ICSE students face a calendar problem that the IB and American-curriculum students do not. The Class 12 boards run from February into April, the same window as the spring SAT sittings, and the coaching batches in the NCR are mostly built around a generic year rather than around that collision. A student who starts SAT preparation in the autumn of Class 12 has one realistic sitting before the boards, and no resit.
One-to-one lessons are planned from the calendar backwards: the main attempt in Class 11 or the autumn of Class 12, a resit in hand, and the spring left clear for the boards. The teaching starts from what the student's own board has actually covered.
Lesson times in Delhi
Delhi is on Indian Standard Time (UTC+5:30). These are the slots students here book most often, with the corresponding UK time in both halves of the year, so you can see the lesson falls inside a normal working day at the tutor's end, which is what keeps a weekly slot stable through a whole term.

The UK moves between GMT and British Summer Time in late March and late October; India does not change clocks, so the UK-side time shifts by an hour twice a year while your lesson time stays put.
What is specific to Delhi
- India is on Indian Standard Time (UTC+5:30), four and a half hours ahead of the UK in summer and five and a half in winter. A 6.00pm lesson in Gurgaon is early afternoon in London, so after-school slots are easy to hold weekly.
- Planned around the boards. For CBSE and ICSE students the main SAT attempt goes in Class 11 or the autumn of Class 12, with the February-to-April board window kept clear.
- Curriculum is the starting point, not an assumption. CBSE, ICSE, IB and American-curriculum students arrive with different gaps, and the first lessons find out which are yours.
- NCR test centres fill early for the autumn sittings, and the centre a student is offered may be across the city. Register as soon as the date is settled: the test date table has every deadline.
- Billed in pounds sterling by card link or bank transfer, after each lesson. Fees are on the fee sheet; the intro call and the trial lesson are free.
How the lessons themselves work
- Live one-to-one on a shared whiteboard that both tutor and student write on, not a recorded course, and not a screen-share of somebody talking.
- Homework set after every lesson and marked before the next, included in the rate.
- Full-length timed mocks in Bluebook, set, marked and reviewed, so nothing on test day is unfamiliar.
- A live topic tracker (one row per College Board domain) so every content area is covered, practised and signed off before the sitting. Parents can see it whenever they like.
- Progress updates to parents after every mock, and a review call whenever you want one.

When should a CBSE student in Class 11 start SAT preparation?
Early in Class 11, for most. That leaves time for a first sitting at the end of Class 11 or in the autumn of Class 12, with a resit still possible before the Class 12 boards begin in February. Altair Prep plans the whole programme backwards from that board window, because a student who starts in the autumn of Class 12 usually has one sitting and no second chance.
Do students in Delhi need the SAT for Indian universities as well?
For a growing number, yes. Universities including Ashoka, Krea and others in the India Global Higher Education Alliance accept the SAT in admissions, and some use it in place of their own entrance test, so the score can serve an Indian application and a US one at the same time. Requirements vary by institution and change from year to year, so check the specific programme before relying on it.
