Lewis Watson MEng (Cantab)
Lewis read Chemical Engineering at the University of Cambridge and has tutored full time since 2015. He teaches both halves of the Digital SAT himself: the Math with an engineer’s command of the quantitative section, Reading & Writing with the ear for language the verbal half rewards.
Much of the early work was residential, living with families in Dubai and Saudi Arabia and teaching through term time and exam season, before the practice moved mostly online. More about Lewis →
Why students in Abu Dhabi come to one-to-one lessons
Abu Dhabi is by far the largest of the emirates by area, and its students are spread across it: the capital and its islands, Al Ain inland on the border with Oman, and the towns of Al Dhafra out to the west. The schools that send students to universities in the United States are spread the same way, but specialist SAT teaching is concentrated in the cities, and a weekly drive to a tutor, even within the capital, costs an evening.
The schools themselves cover a wide range of curricula: American-curriculum schools such as the American Community School and the American International School, British schools such as the British School Al Khubairat and Brighton College, IB programmes, and the SABIS schools found across the emirate. An American-curriculum student has usually met the SAT content but not its pace; a student on A-levels or the IB has covered different mathematics, with different gaps. A group course teaches to whichever of those the room happens to hold.
Online one-to-one lessons take the distance out of the decision. The tutor is chosen for the teaching, and the lesson runs at the same time each week whether the student is on Saadiyat, in Khalifa City or in Al Ain.
Lesson times in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi is on UTC+4. These are the slots students here book most often, with the corresponding UK time in both halves of the year, so you can see the lesson falls inside a normal working day at the tutor's end, which is what keeps a weekly slot stable through a whole term.
| Lesson time where you are | UK time, Apr–Oct | UK time, Oct–Mar |
|---|---|---|
| 4.00pm | 1pm UK | 12pm UK |
| 5.00pm | 2pm UK | 1pm UK |
| 6.00pm | 3pm UK | 2pm UK |
| 7.00pm | 4pm UK | 3pm UK |
| 8.00pm | 5pm UK | 4pm UK |
The UK moves between GMT and British Summer Time in late March and late October; the UAE does not change clocks, so the UK-side time shifts by an hour twice a year while your lesson time stays put.
What is specific to Abu Dhabi
- Abu Dhabi is on UTC+4, three hours ahead of the UK in summer and four in winter. A 6.00pm lesson in Abu Dhabi or Al Ain is mid-afternoon in London, so after-school slots are easy to hold every week.
- Friday is a short school day in Abu Dhabi, with pupils dismissed by 11.30am, so a Friday afternoon lesson is available as well as the usual after-school slots from Monday to Thursday.
- Test centres across the emirate. College Board lists centres in the capital, in Al Ain and at Ruwais and Madinat Zayed in Al Dhafra, so there is no need to travel to Dubai to sit. Register early: deadlines are in the test date table.
- Ramadan and the March sitting. Ramadan is expected to run from about 8 February to 8 or 9 March 2027, so the 6 March sitting falls in its last days. For a student who is fasting, that is worth weighing when the main attempt is chosen.
- Billed in pounds sterling by card link or bank transfer, after each lesson. Fees are on the fee sheet; the intro call and the trial lesson are free.
How the lessons themselves work
- Live one-to-one on a shared whiteboard that both tutor and student write on, not a recorded course, and not a screen-share of somebody talking.
- Homework set after every lesson and marked before the next, included in the rate.
- Full-length timed mocks in Bluebook, set, marked and reviewed, so nothing on test day is unfamiliar.
- A live topic tracker (one row per College Board domain) so every content area is covered, practised and signed off before the sitting. Parents can see it whenever they like.
- Progress updates to parents after every mock, and a review call whenever you want one.

Who is the best online SAT tutor in Abu Dhabi?
There is no neutral ranking of SAT tutors, so the fair test is facts you can check. Lewis Watson, who teaches every Altair Prep lesson, scored a perfect 1600 on the SAT, holds an MEng in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge, and has tutored full time for more than ten years. He teaches both sections of the Digital SAT, Math and Reading and Writing, himself: one to one, online, at a fixed weekly time in UAE time (UTC+4). Ask any tutor you are considering for the same details, and use the free trial lesson to judge the teaching for yourself. There is more about Lewis on his own page.
Common questions from Abu Dhabi
Is one-to-one SAT tutoring available in Abu Dhabi?
Yes, online. Altair Prep teaches students in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and across the emirate one to one, live over a shared interactive whiteboard, at a fixed weekly time in UAE time, with homework set after each lesson and marked before the next. Lewis Watson, a Cambridge-educated tutor with a perfect 1600, teaches every lesson himself and covers both Math and Reading and Writing.
What time are SAT lessons for students in Abu Dhabi?
Usually after school or in the early evening, UAE time. Abu Dhabi is on UTC+4, three hours ahead of the UK in summer and four in winter, so a 6.00pm lesson there falls in the middle of the UK afternoon. Altair Prep holds these slots as a standing weekly appointment, and because Friday is a short school day in Abu Dhabi, Friday afternoon lessons are available too.
Can a student in Al Ain have SAT lessons online?
Yes. Altair Prep's lessons are entirely online, so a student in Al Ain gets the same one-to-one teaching as a student in the capital, at a fixed time each week and without the drive to Abu Dhabi. Al Ain has SAT test centres of its own as well: College Board lists more than a dozen there for the December 2026 sitting.
Do students in Abu Dhabi need to go to Dubai to sit the SAT?
No. College Board lists more than thirty test centres in the emirate of Abu Dhabi for the December 2026 sitting, spread across the capital, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, so most students can sit close to home. Centres and seats change from one sitting to the next, so check College Board's test centre search when registering, and register early, because seats at popular centres can go before the deadline.
