Why students in Muscat come to one-to-one lessons
Muscat has a small, well-established set of international schools, the American British Academy, the British School Muscat, the American International School and a handful of others, and a modest but steady stream of students applying to the United States. What it does not have is a test-prep industry. There is no Dubai-style row of SAT centres, and a family looking for preparation is often choosing between a tutor who happens to be available and a group course that happens to be running.
That thinness matters more than it sounds. A student who has a specific problem, a Reading and Writing score sixty points behind the Math, say, or a habit of running out of time on the second module, needs somebody who teaches that problem. In a larger market they could find one; in Muscat the choice has usually been whoever is nearby.
Online one-to-one lessons remove geography from the decision. The tutor is chosen for the teaching, and the lesson runs at a fixed time in Oman's own afternoon or evening.

The UK moves between GMT and British Summer Time in late March and late October; Oman does not change clocks, so the UK-side time shifts by an hour twice a year while your lesson time stays put.
What is specific to Muscat
- Oman is on UTC+4, three hours ahead of the UK in summer and four in winter. A 6.00pm lesson in Muscat is mid-afternoon in London, so after-school and evening slots are easy to hold.
- No dependence on what is running locally. The tutor, the materials and the plan are the same as for a student in London or Dubai, and none of it depends on a centre in Muscat.
- The school week runs Sunday to Thursday, and weekend sessions on Friday or Saturday are available for students whose weekdays are full.
- Test centre capacity in Oman is small. Some students sit in Dubai or Abu Dhabi instead. Whichever you choose, register early: the test date table lists the deadlines.
- Billed in pounds sterling by card link or bank transfer, after each lesson. Fees are on the fee sheet; the intro call and the trial lesson are free.
How the lessons themselves work
- Live one-to-one on a shared whiteboard that both tutor and student write on, not a recorded course, and not a screen-share of somebody talking.
- Homework set after every lesson and marked before the next, included in the rate.
- Full-length timed mocks in Bluebook, set, marked and reviewed, so nothing on test day is unfamiliar.
- A live topic tracker (one row per College Board domain) so every content area is covered, practised and signed off before the sitting. Parents can see it whenever they like.
- Progress updates to parents after every mock, and a review call whenever you want one.
